I find the sterilization laws most interesting. I just can't fathom the concept of physically causing somebody to be unable to have children. I would like to learn more about the anti-miscegenation laws and the "blood-fractions". I am interested in learning how much "other" you need in your blood to classify you as an "other".

I found it disturbing that people believed that the mentally disabled people were inferior to others because even in the early 1900's there was not a clear definition for mentally disabled.

For the assignment in class today, I thought looking at the nine different images were interesting to me. It gave me a better perspective of what eugenics is really about and how other people view eugenics. I would like to learn more about the anti-miscegenation laws and immigration.

I found it really disturbing that people thought that eugenics was a practical concept. I knew this all went on during the Holocaust, but no idea that it was going on in the United States. I thought it was interesting how it seemed that this is what people wanted to believe because they ignored those who said the evidence was false. I would like to learn more about what evidence they had to prove eugenics.

Eugenics is a strange and twisted theory designed to keep the population controlled and "pure".
Derived by Darwin's theories, the ideas focus around building environments that are safe and fertile for the perfect human to prosper. Perhaps the most interesting thing I viewed was the propaganda. The most twisted diagram showed a pedigree of a white family and black family who procreated. The caption at the bottom stated to be careful. If a "pass for white" and a white procreate, the child will not be white. This is being said as if bad thing.

The part of eugenics that interests me the most is the fact that people were graded by how superior they were to others based on meaningless things such as the size of their skull. First off it disturbs me that people were ranked based on their race alone, however the big thing to me is that this is still happening today. I can't fathom this happening in a world around me, but i can see why people do believe in it.

Eugenics is pretty much the Holocaust without direct murder. Sterilization killed potential lives of people who for all the government knew could have been the next Einstein. It was very Nazi-like and makes the United States nearly just as bad a Germany was. I can't believe I am just learning about this now. I never knew it was this major.

I'd like to learn about how they proved that the victims were inferior.

The part that I found interesting about Eugenics is the contests that were held at fairs. It's funny to me that even ministers were involved in best sermon contest that the winner is awarded a cash prize. Also, the grading of different people to see who is inferior to another human being. I would like to learn more about sterilization because that seemed very interesting.

I found sterilization to be the most interesting/disturbing. I cannot wrap my mind around the concept of preventing reproduction because someone is seen as a little different. I would like to learn more about the anti-miscegeneation laws and how the percents of races in your blood affected you, according to eugenics.

The most interesting part about eugenics to me was how people were ranked based on their characteristics. It seems absurd to grade someone just based on appearances. I am interested in how people felt about being scrutinized about their body features.

The most interesting part of eugenics was looking at the nine different image. It gave me a different perspective of what eugenics is and how other people view it. I would like to learn more about the anti-miscegeneation laws.

The part about Eugenics that most interested me was how easy it seemed to convince people that this was a valid science and that it was legal to sterilize people. i would like to learn more about the people that went against Eugenics.

I think the most interesting part about eugenics is how people looked at it in the 1800's and early 1900's. It incredible how people thought what they were doing wasn't wrong. I was really surprised how there were even Eugenics Contests where children were judged on how "pure" they were. I would like to learn a little more on the general history of eugenics.

78awesome said...

i think the most interesting part of eugenics is how it is actually considered real. I find it interesting how everyone's definition of it is different yet they managed to target with their same definitions.

2hotcarl said...

What I found most interesting about eugenics is how so many people bought into this idea and how it caught on so quickly in many different countries. What I would like to learn more about during this class is why people were so willing to accept this idea and why no one stood up to disprove this theory until it was too late.

2Arabianhammer said...

i think that the most interesting part of eugenics is that the fact that people acutally attempted to do this. It seems like its something straight out of a twisted book or something, i wanna learn more about the people behind it, and if they thought of them selves as perfect or not

2Dwayne42 said...

I think the most interesting part about eugenics is that so many people supported it when they themselves were not considered perfect humans. I would like to learn a little bit more about the history of eugenics.

78doglover said...

The most interesting part of Eugenics to me is the involuntary sterilization. I can't even understand how people actually believed they had to do this in order to create a "pure" race. Its horrible. Also, as 78bleekerst said, that people did not listen to individuals who had evidence to prove Eugenics wrong and unjust. I would like to learn more about the groups of people who worked to stop the Eugenics movement.

2gertrude said...

The most interesting part to me was the sterilization laws. I can't believe it was actually legal to sterilize someone without their consent. Plus people were chosen if they appeared feeble minded or defected. That seems completely absurd. I would like to learn more about how the pedigrees worked and the logic behind them. Having one drop of black blood in your great great grandma still makes you considered black.

2TheGuysch said...

The part of eugenics that is most interesting to me is sterilization. Sterilization was considered a valid part of the solution to ending the menace of the feebleminded in America. Eugenicists believed that by halting the reproductive capabilities of the "feebleminded" and "defective," their genetic traits would not be passed on to further generations, and over time would be removed from American society. An estimated 60,000 men and women deemed feebleminded and defective were sterilized in the United States. I would like to learn a lot more about sterilization because I am personally against it and think it is horrible. I would also like to learn more about the anti-miscegenation laws and immigration.

78butterfly said...

The most interesting part of Eugenics to me is that the believers of this movement ruined people's lives off of relative terms. I believe that some of the classifications to be sterilized were based on what someone else was compared to them. I would like to know how Eugenics is still seen in the United States and other countries today.

9819Dynamite65 said...

For me, the immigration and sterilization is the most interesting part of Eugenics. I would love to learn more about the legality of sterilization and why people allowed it to happen.

2PurpleOctopus said...

What interests me most about eugenics is how many people were willing to go along with the concept of having one Aryan race. I would like to learn more about the people who were against/worked to fight eugenics.

78whereswaldo said...

The part of Eugenics that is most interesting to me is looking at the different images and sterilization. The different images showed me all different views of Eugenics and how different some people are. Sterilization amazed me because I cant believe they wouldn't sterilize someone or even want them to have a baby because they were different or because they were "feeble minded." I think there has to be more behind the whole sterilization situation and I would definitely like to learn more about it.

2SantasSwag said...

The most interesting/intriguing part of this eugenics unit for me was the sterilization idea. It is just so morally wrong I just cant seem to understand how anyone could think in that manner. To prevent a specific type of person from being reproduced for horrible reasons is an absolutely terrible thing.

2SantasSwag said...

I would like to learn more and go further in depth as to why anyone would accept sterilization of specific people.

2BobbyB said...

The most interesting part of eugenics was looking at the different images. It gave me a look on what Eugenics was and is today and then.

78Blue said...

I think the most interesting thing was how convincing Eugenics "experts" were and that those that did not agree with them were considered a minority at that time and were not given the time of day. I would like to learn more about Eugenics related to the Holocaust.

9gohardswag said...

In the assignment in class, I liked looking at the different pictures. The pictures gave me a real sample of how eugenics were used back at the time in the United States. And how people were ranked based on size and race. I couldn't believe the United States had a form of the holocaust.I would like to learn more on the immigration.

The thing that I found most interesting about my research is how people actually considered and believed in the theory and the action of Eugenics. People actually believed in making it possible and changing all humans to be the strongest. I understand the idea of Eugenics but its amazing to me that people actually felt so powerful about changing the human race. Also, its crazy how people believed so strongly in the facet that one race was superior to all the others.

9stone said...

I found that the most interesting part was the people seriously used to believe that one person was superior to the other because the size of their skull. How a person can believe such an absurd statement is surreal. The whole idea of one race being superior to another is something that as a human we should shun, instead of invite.

7/8baller said...

I think the most interesting part of this is that it was taken so seriously and that research was done for this. People should know better than to think that one person was better than the other. But looking back at many cases in history, I guess that's the root of most of our problems

I thought the propoganda was really interesting. I couldn't believe how adamant eugenicists were in discouraging people from passing down unwanted traits and how badly they wanted to make a perfect society. The posters were very blunt and straight forward and I was able to see how effective they probably were.

9MAG said...

I found it hard to believe that our country would support eugenics when we had strongly disagreed with it when it occured in other countries. I would like to learn more about sterilization and how people felt about it. I also found the images of posters very interesting. I was suprised to see how hard people worked to popularize eugenics.

78onelove said...

I think that sterilization is the most interesting thing about Eugenics because I find it ridiculous that people have to be "sterilized" if they're a certain way.

9ladygaga said...

The most interesting part of Eugenics to me was the 9 pictures. It was cool to see the creativity of the people back then. And it was interesting to see the family tree picture to see how they would completely eliminate a race in a family by mating with a different race.

Expo355 said...

Eugenics interests because of the sterilization. Sterilization was thought of as a good way in eliminating the weak in the country. Also the interesting think about the Eugenics was the craze behind it. People worried about how people thought of them, to a horrible extant. I would like to learn a lot more about sterilization becauseI think it is horrible and really bad. Furthermore I would like to learn more about the culture and how people reacted to eugenics.

Something that I found interesting about yhis was when they tried to figure what baby skin colors would look like by mixing races.also how many people tried to keep apart the diffrent races

78MoustacheLady69 said...

The thing that i think is interesting about the eugenics is that they tried to make the society perfect by judging who is fit to be able to have babies and who is not and it was just very interesting that they would try make a perfect society and what i would like to learn more about was like what the reasoning behind why people would try and make this perfect society and i just think it is interesting that we would try and do this cause i feel like this goes against what america really is.,

9prettyboiswagg18c said...

in my opinion, sterilization interesting in Eugenics because I find it funny that people have to be sterilized because of a social standards.

7/8taylorgang said...

What really bothered me about eugenics is that they classified peoples intelligence based on the size of their skulls. For example, it was said that whites were "superior" because their skulls were bigger than other races.

9ashbash said...

I find the sterilization laws were the most interesting because it makes no sense to me that you were sterilize people just because they were poor or their past life. To me I think it's dumb because what if people change. We aren't giving them a chance.

armonneal2period said...

the immigration and sterilization is the most interesting part of Eugenics. It is just so morally wrong I just cant seem to understand how anyone could think in that way.

9Mr.Rager said...

The most interesting part about Eugenics to me is the fact that its not any different to many of the world's problems, hate. People would rather discriminate and classify others that are different from themselves, rather than befriend them. Eugenics also facinates me too because of the support it gained in the Eugenics movement. The fact that people would support such a thing is a travisty.

2iLuvScissors said...

I think it's sad that people would intentionaly try to stop other people from having babies just because they are a little different to what is considered the "norm" in society. The case where that relative of the feeble-minded girl was steralized and never told for more than 40 years is an example that really stands out. I just think that it is so wrong for people to do this kind of thing to one another.

someone92 said...

The part of Eugenics that is most interesting to me is peoples reactions to the superior roll certains persons took. I would like to learn about why people didn't take more of stand or why people even felt they should treat people poorly because of their intelligence in the first place.

2snowboardking said...

I think that eugenics is a very twisted thing, like UnipueMusician said, but i do like it in a way. I like it because back then the world was very different. There were people who came to America looking for a new life and when they made it how they wanted, and new people came in and did not take that life as hard and get as much out of it as they could to become smart, they started to mess up the flow that they had going. They did not want people who did not try to become part of something amazing they had going. So sterilization was the way they went with it. A very harsh way, but ad least they did not kill them, they still got to live there life. I know that is very bad, but very bad for our era, not theres.
