“Other minorities” (Hispanics, Blacks, Asians) have their own “privileges” so it’s pointless for Whites to think about and call to mind White Privilege. Whites are at as much of a disadvantage of anybody else.

I don't think any race is at a "disadvantage"... that is a really poorly stated comment. Each person lives their lives how they choose so if their white and want to victimize themselves thats on them not the white race.
White people have an extreme advantage. Although as time goes on, I think it does get better for other races. I think having a black president shows the length that this country has come.
I think it is stereotypical to think that whites are so much more privelaged than any other race. It is not a race that determines what privelages you have... remember MLK?

But speaking on America as a whole, I do think that Whites should at least realize that they have some sort of privelegde. I absolutely disagree that whites (as a whole) are at the same disadvantage as other minorites.
This is not true at all. People say white people founded this country, so every other race was f'ed from the get go. Whites do not share the same disadvantages as other races because they feel superior to them. Other races are looked at, picked on, and terrorized in ways whites will never be.
To me, it all depends where you grow up, how your parents raised you, and how you carry yourself as a person. Our president is black, and he obviously has more privileges than a lot of people in this world.
You're being historically ignorant. Whites have had rights for longer, and have colonized this country for long. Chronologically, they had a head start.
I agree that other minorites do have their own privileges, however I disagree that whites are at just as much of a disadvantage of everyone else. I personally think that your race has only a small part in how much "privilege" you have. There are plenty of white people who are underprivileged as well as plenty of other races that have a lot of privileges. I think the amount that you have depends mostly on your background, your family, your location, how you were raised, more personal things that are specifically unique to you.
78bleekerst... i agree completely. it isn't race that gives you privileges. we live in 2011 for crying out loud... it's what you do with your life and your education, drive, etc. that gets you where you deserve to be.
Thinking about it fairly, affirmative action and other programs to help minorities are like reverse racism and probably should not be implemented. But why should we think fairly? Minorites have always been oppresed and have always faced inequality. This isn't fair. If we are all supposed to be equal, I think the goverment should have programs to bring minorites up to the same speed as whites. To this day, whites still have way more advantages. The advantages of a white person weigh out their disadvantages significantly.

78onelove- i agree with you but how about the people that havent grown up in well off homes? tim wise made the example of himself and how he rgew up in a poor neighborhood at the same class as the other races living there yet he still ot more privileges
Do you think its right that being a minority gives you certain privileges that Whites aren't given...like when it comes to topics such as college scholarships and affirmaive action?
78onelove. if you grow up in america, and your white then you have privileges. like tim wise said, he was a poor student but since he was white he was seen as not living up to his potential. no one cares for other races like that and they are not expected to achieve like whites are
taylor gang just because somebody is in the majority does not give them a privilege. Actually, a lot of employers, colleges, etc, look for people who are unique, and present something different. A lot of people who consider themselves part of the majority, purposely go out of their way to make themselves different and unique in order to get noticed.
Other minorities have privileges to certain degrees but they've mostly derived from the guilt that the majority has.. for instance colleges' new-found favoritism of minorities.. It came about from the colleges being overflooded with white students and now they have to play "catch-up" in diversity.

maybe he could have worked hard. but how do you know he hasn't worked hard already? in our society a black male is about as low as they get. Society has been working agaisnt him for so long. this man has to try harder then any white person to even come close to getting the same opportunities

False. Any majority in any sort of society has privilages above all others, regardless of the factors that determine why they are the majority.

Yeah, it definitely has to do with where you are in America. There are alot of rich members of minorities with high social status.

We go to a fair school and live in an equal opportunity area. We don't see what it's like in lower class urban areas.

Privileges are distributed to people in the majority first... then comes the "trickle-down effect"
